RIFLE SHOOTING.

The firing for the Government prize-money; took place at Trentham yesterday. The 'meeting was a most successful one, the number of entries' being about; 160. ■ Firing commenced shortly after 9 a.ui.\ in , perfect . weather, thg wind'being "dead in." Wakelin, Post and Telegraph Rifles, headed the list with 32 points out of a possible 35, the runner-up being 1 te. Jones, of the same eompanv, witliia score of 30 points. \ ■ The third match, ten shots at 200 yds;, for volunteers only,; was won by Pte. Williamson, Post and Telegraph Rifles, with 48 points, the' possible being 50. He was followed closely by. Sergt. Wakelin, of the same corps, with 47' points. In the junior competition for this match, Pte. Hamilton, Post and Telegraph Rifles, was the winner, and Sergt. Gilbert, also, a "P. and T.," came second, /their scores being 46 each. V :

The Garrison Officers' match, ten shots ht 600 yds., senjors and juniors; came next. In the senior class, Q.-M.-Seret. King, a-vctoran rifleman of D Battery, headed the list of prizewinners with 45 points, followed by LanceCorporal M'lver, Highland Kifles, with :'44 points. The junior, competition fell to Pte. Given, City Rifles, the .runner-up .being Pto. Wiren, of the same corps, their scores being 43 and 40" points respectively. The Battalion Shield competition was keenly contested.
