At a special mooting of tho Groytown Borough Council, held on Monday night, Mr, JC. Ircson was appointed dog-tax collector; Mrj. Mark Maxton, assistant borough vainer. On Sunday morning a fire, started on the property of 'tho Seifcrt Flaxdressisig Company, about a mile past M'Leod's old camp, and spread rapidly. When the Miranui employees and Mr. 11. Greig's flax-witters arrived on the scene, the swam]) was,blazing, but everything was done to prevent the firo spreading. Partly owing to the efforts of tho men, and partly to the fact that in places tho lire burnt itself out, the blaze was got under control, and on Monday afternoon the lire was practically extinguished. About 150 acres of (lax were destroyed, all tho property of the Seifcrt Company. "Watchmen will* bo kept on day and night for a week, ill case of the fir'o springing up again.; OTAKI. F. E. Merlet, N.G., presided at a meeting of the Loyal Unity Lodge on Monday night, liro. L. I l '. Keys resigned tho positions of custodian and treasurer, and Bro. H. \Y. Waters was appointed treasurer, and Bro. C, fl. Kent-Johnston custodian. Bros. Rev. T. J. Smith and C. J. Kent-Johnston were appointed deputies for the district, and Bro. Sheen was appointed tyler. Bro. S. Murphy, P. 0., was appointed warden, and-Bro. H. ti. O'Neale, 1.0. It was resolved to present Bro. C. Sheen with a framed emblem for having obtained tho most new members during the past year.
