One of tho mud holes, known as Ngawas, in tho Arikikapakapa reserve, close to tho Whakarowarewa geysers, became very active shortly boforo four o'clock this afternoon. Maoris and others working at tho now Maori pa, which is being built by tho Government, wero first attracted by an explosive sound, and then witnessed tho extraordinary sight of mud being thrown vigorously up. to a height of about eighty feet. Tho boiling mudhole continued its activity for about twenty minutes, and at intervals big clouds of mud of immense sizo wore vomited up. This unusual activity interested tho Natives, who novor romomber such an occurrenco in Whakarowarewa before.
