' Tljere !. been ,a ! similar number of suicides during the present month. It is claimed tho hot weather has largely: contributed to these. . ■ • The churches yesterday were almost deserted, and tho services had to be shortened owing to tho hoat. The Princess Theatro was closed for the same cause. No part of the State has escapcd. - Numbers of places liavo established records. Swan Hill registered 121 degrees. BUSINESS ALMOST STOPPED., (Rec. Jan. 21, 1.10 a.m.). Melbourne, January 20. Another roasting day was experienced, and work generally is to a largo extent stopped owing to tho heat. Several moro deaths are roported. • IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, January 20. Intense heat prevails throughout tho State. It is especially severe in the interior. At Deniliquin the thermometer registered 115 degrees.
