. (from otm'swKstXr. cobbsstosbisnts.) '-' —-—-4 — — •-" PALMERSTON. A few weeks ago I. had . occasion to mention tho serious menace to the travelling public owing to the blocking of the .Gorge road by slips. Slips, are to be found at intervals along tho road, which is completely blocked. Three weeks ago a young man, Mr. R. Powell, well known., in Palmorstoiv and Stoney Creek, started out to cycle through the Gorge. Ho ■ asked tho ferryman if the road was passable, and was informed that . othors had boon through arid probably lib could do the same. He passed two slips , safely, and while crossing a third slipped and fell a' distance of ,70 feet. He remained thoro in an unconscious condition froni Friday until the following Tuesday, afterwards walking to Ashhurst in a weak state. Medical examination revealed a number of bruises and cuts, and a, sprained arm. The bicycle was completely smashed. v Seeing that the Gorge bridge is in course, of re-crection, it is of the utmost importance that the road should receive immediate attention from the' authorities. .;:
