THE COST OF CARPETS.
0 . . Wool has gone down in pricc, but .English manufacturers are. still affected: ..by the high, prices that rilled' last season, and the cost of carpets has been advanced'-liy sixpence a yard; Fortunately for 'our 'customers, instead of sending Home small orders from time to time, wo had ordered a whole year's stock, which wj-secured before the price was increased, and wo can, therefore, soil them at the old price. We havo now a very".fine _selection of carpet squares in several varieties.' Axminster carpet squares, in beautifully blended colours and in self-coloured de-ti-ns, we sell at. the following pricestr9ft. by 10ft; 6in., from ... £7 10 0 10ft. 6in. by 12ft., from ... £10 0 0 10ft. 6in. by 13ft. Gin., from' £12 1D 0 I ' 13ft. Gin. by 12ft.,' from ... £12 16 S 12ft. by 15ft„ from £14 7. 6 Wo have also very beautiful Axminster carpets, to be made into squares to. suit purchasers,, and the price, of course, therefore,' vary. ■' We have gorgeous Mirzapore carpets at 12ft. by 9ft., from ... £9 10 0 lift, by 10ft„ from ... ... £9 15 0 For. those who cannot , afford the real Mirzapore square wo have an imitation made in Japan, in the same bright plowing colours, and at a very much lower price. For instance, a square 12ft. by 12ft. would cost from 67s 6d. And Kidderminster squares for bedrooms at prices beginning at, 9{t. by'9ft., 275. 6d. These aro made in a. variety of colours, cool-looking blues and greys, in reds and mingled colours. We have-very handsome Axminster stair carpets at prices from 6s. to 12s. 6d. per yard. ■ . . LINOLEUMS. Our stock of linolonms is as artistic and varied as our carpet stock. The virtues i of the inlaid tile pattern are well known. \These do not show dust marks, and they wear evenly • till the last, becauso each colour is stamped right through to . the back. They are more expensive than the painted linoleums, but aro much more artistic, and in their durability well worth the extra money. Other iinoleums in ■ which tho colour is stamped right through are ■ the. Oriental ones, and the parquetry. The Oriental are made in me rich colours, and the designs Turkey carpets, and would do admirably for smoking-rooms or diningrooms. Theso wo can supply at ss. 6d. and 6s. 6d. a square yard. There are also linoleums in very handsome Art designs at 4s. 3d., ss. 6d., and 6s. 6d. per squari yard. . Then we have inlaid linoleums in a sort of softened - effect, nrft ■ clearly cut liko the familiar ttle designs. And a new line is the plain matting effect in a cheaper linoleum, which we stock in red, cream, and green. The latest, idea in linoleums is the parquetry flooring. ' These are in imitation of oak parquetry flooring, really an admirable imitation. They are specially adapted for halls and dining-rooms, but in a drawingroom,', with an Oriental carpet square in the centre, they would look very effective, and would set off tho rich colours of the carpet. . Yet another linoleum-like floor covering is the cork carpet, which is most suitable for bedrooms, as it is not cold to the feet liko ordinary linoleum, and, as a matter of'fact, it. is made of some' preparation of cork. The plain cork carpet, in shades of.green and red, and dark blue, is very suitable for offices, especially if there were a carpet square in the centre. We havo this plain at 3s. 3d., 4i. 3d., and . ss. 3d. per 1 yard, and in art designs at 4s, per yard. CURTAI..3. - If you want ourtains, you probably want casement curtains, as those are more used now than anything else, quaint and pretty little curtains hangingfrom top to bottom of the window pane. Wo havo a very good range of casement cloths. Wo havo plain silky cloth, a doublo width material 'of 52in. width, at ss. 3d. a yard. Stencilled cream cloth, of tho same width, from 2s. 9d. to -ss. 9d. a yard. Holland : casement, 'in grass green, art blue, and self colour, at 4s. a yard. Then we have Madras curtains, plain, tasselled, and frilled, from Is. 6d. to 4s. 6d. per yard. THE SCOULLAR COMPANY LTD, Warehouse: 197, 199 Lambtoa Quay. Jtfiam and Bedding Fatfor;; Tliornioa Qtiaj
