C. l'earce) was. appointed representative delegato to tho Conference which is, to 'meet at tho Town Halllto consider the weekly half-holiday' to bo obsorvod in tho city and suburbs during tho ensuing-year. , Councillor Smith was appointed to. represent the Council at the election of a member of tho Harbour Board. 1 Messrs. B. Smith 1 and Co. wroto accepting tbo Council's offer of £30 in full settlement or olaim in respcct of rent for tho quarry on tho Bell Estate. : . - 1 Tho Valuer-General, under date. December' 31, 1907, intimated, with respect to tho revision of tho Karori Borough, that thoNorthlands area would,' when tho revision took ofi'ect, form part of tho city, and, therefore, could only'ho revised, so far as the unimproved value was concerned, when the rest | of tho city was revised/ which would probably bo next year. Tho new buildings would bo added'this year, ; bnt tho unimproved value would remain for another year. It was pointed out that if a re-valuation of tho unimproved valuo were mado of Northland's this year, the. city , rates would also be collectiblo 011 tho new values.. This would-bo unfair to the ratepayers, resident .'in North-, lands, who would thus bo rated on a basis of valuation for tho coining .fear differing from that of others within tho city boundaries. Tho Government valuation of land did not. | provide for, a revision of unimproved valuos | in a portion only of a district. .' It rras also stated that tho work of revising the roll for' tho Karori Borough would bo put in hand shortly, and also that of adding tho now buildings over, tho whole area. ' Tho letter was rdceived. : A complaint as to tho unsatisfactory state of tho.light at the corner-of Mount ltoad' and Karori Ilohd was referred to tho Street Lighting Cammittoo. - ■ , Notification was received from the City jCkctric Lighting Department, to tho effect that sixteen new public lamps, numbered 14-t tp 15!), 'had been erected in tho Borough and, coxnected with , tho supply mains 011 January 10. .. 1 Tho Town Clerk was instructed to prcparo and forward to tho Wellington and Wnirarapa Charitablo Aid Board a return 'showing tho amount required for charitablo aid purposos for. the ensuing year.
