The Hon. James M'Gowan (Minister for Mines), is expected, back in Wellington on Wednesday evening.
The Rev. G. IV Davys is. expected to return to-night from'a holiday which he has been spending up the line.
The Rev.- Mr. Bartlett, who has resigned the curacy of St. Mark's Church, is at present enjoying a holiday at Wanganui. Ho will be awaj for about a fortnight.
Mr. D. M. Tindlay, barrister and solicitor, has-severed his connection with tho firm ol .fcmdlay, Dalziell and < Co., and has com-m-enoed practice on his own acoount.
Mr. F. H. Wood, formerly of Mastorton, and now of Tauranga, is visiting Wellington. He is to tour the world under tho auspices of Messrs. Cook and Son, leaving for Sydney on Friday next. ,
Mr. H. C. Waterfield (Private Secretary to His Excellency the Governor), who lias been in town since,the New Year, will lenvo for Auckland on Monday morning. His Excellency, who has been on a fishing excursion to Lake Tarawera, is at present in Rotor Ja.
The Minister for, Lauds (the Hon. R. M'Nab), on returning from his northern tour, will almost immediately afterwards proceed south on a visit to tho West Coast districts. The itinerary has not yet boon definitely arranged, but tho Ministor expects to leave Wellington on February 17 for Lyttolfcon, thenco proceeding overland via Otira to Hokitika. On February 19 ho expects to attend the Wostlaiid A. and P. Show at Hokitika, and after visiting tho sights of tho district, will arrivo at Greymouth on February 22. On February 24 ho will Icavo Groymouth for Westport.
Signor Alberto Zelman, composer and musician, died on December 28 at Melbourne, aged 75. Tho deceased was for many years one of tho best-known figures in tho musical circles of tho Commonwealth and Now Zealand. Ho was a great student of languages, and spoko and wrote well English, French, German, Italian, 'Hebrew, Latin, and Hindustanco; besides having a knowledge of tho Arabian and Persian tongues. Bom of Italian parents in Trieste (Austria), ho was educated for a musician in that city, and oarly in his lifo made a name for himself on tho Continont as nn able conductor. He camo to Australia about 1870, under engagement to the lato G. B. W. Lowis, as conductor of his Italian Opera Company, and subsequently was conductor 'of tho Lyster Opera Company. It was in this latter capacity that ho scored his orchestral parts for Wagner's "Lohengrin" for tho first Australian performance of that work, when tho management was unable to obtain tho band parts from Europo. Signor Zelman, who passed away peacefully during his sleep, has left a widow and four sons, one of whom i 3 a .well-known violinist and.oonduotot.
