p— —v ——- . GIRL'S SAD DEATH. SHOT WITH A REVOLVER, (BT TELEGRAPH—SrECIiL CORRESPONDENT.) Dunedin, January 9. An inquest will bo held to-morrow concorning tho death of Catherino Muurrin Mead, which occurred shortly after six o'clock this morning. The girl was but fifteen years old. Last night, on returning to her homo in Decarlo Street, St. Kilda, at 9.30, her mother rebuked her for being out so late. This morning, just before six, Mrs:' Mead entered tho girl's room and found her sitting half-dressed on tho bed. The mother then went into tho kitchen, and while there sho heard a loud report, and her rush for tho bedroom brought her to tho door in time to sea hertdaughtcr collapse upon the floor. The police and a doctor were called in, and beside tho girl thoy found a six-chambered revolver. One barrel contained an empty cartridgb, tho bullet having lodged in the girl's head. She was quito dead. Deceased's father is nn artilleryman, who has been working at tho Heads lately, no states that his women-folk wero suffering from a burglar scare, and had been in the habit of having his revolver close at hand. He thinks that. his daughter was tinkering with the weapon when it exploded.
A GHASTLY DISCOVERY. (BT 3'ELEGKAPH—Pt'.ESS ASSOCIATION) Auckland, January 9. Tho dead body of a man named John S. Wright was found in a house in Howe Street, doubled up in a pool of blood, and with the throat out. There were also gashes on tho arms, aiid a razor bearing marks of the tragedy was lying near by. Wright was a man about 50 years of ago, a tailor by occupation, and recently arrived from Sydney. ■ CimrSTCHURCH FATALITIES. Christchurch, January 9. A married woman named Ennna Partridge, aged 52 years, wife or a farmer in Victoria Street, St. Martin's, died suddenly yesterday afternoon after complaining of pains in the head. Death is attributed to heart disease. At tho inquest on Charles La Crosse, who died in a tram on Tuesday while on the way to Ghristchurch Hospital, a verdict was returned of death from heart failure. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. (BT TEIjKGR Al'lI —SPECIAL COItIIESPONDENT.) Creytown, January 9. A man named Jack Ryan attempted to cut his throat on Tuesday at Ponatahi. Ho made a severe gash, hut it was not fatal. Tho police and Dr. Bey wont out there, and tho wound was sewn up. Constable Armo.ur brought Ryan into the hospital, where lie is now lying.
