" The Times " publishes a statement to the> effect that negotiations l are in -for the formation of a "Times Limited Company," under tho chairmanship of Mr. A. P. Walter, and that Mr. C. :A. Pearson, as managing director, will re-organiso the busi-. noss management. ■ Tho wlitorial character of tho paper will romain unchanged, and it will bo conducted on tho linos of independent party politics. Mr. Cyril Arthur Pearson first joined the staff of another great newspaper owner, Sir Goorgo Newnes, and rapidly ijose to the position of manager. He occnpied- it for four voars, and then left to start" Pearson's Weekly." Hk made a rapid success of this, and followed it'with "i Homo Notes," " Pearson's Magazine," "Royal Magazine," "Novel Magazine," "M.A.P.," "Rapid Review;" and other periodicals. He started the "Daily Express, a halfpenny London morning. paper, in 1900 and has since • then -founded : the " North Mail and Evening Mail," in New-custlc-on-Tyne, the " Gazette and Express " in - Birmingham, the " Evening Despatch" in the samo city, aild has acquired the controlling interest in tho " Standard." Tho " Evening Standard '■ ho has amalgamated with the " St.' James Gazotto," which; wbb already under his control.
