Cockayne, F.L.S., of Christchurch, will probably arrive in town to-day, on his way to carry out for the Government a botanical survey of the Tongarire National Park, which is practically new ground to tho botanist.' An old settler of Tait.a, Mr. William Scott Milne, and Mrs. Milno, celebrated their diamond wedding on December 31 of tho year jusC past. Mr. Milno is a highly-respected farmer at Taita. Ho is aged 83 years, and his wifo 7S. They liavo 37 grand-childron, and two groat grand-children. Mr. Milne arrived ill Wellington in 1841 in tho Lady Nugent, and Mrs. Millie (whoso maiden nuran was |Miss Graco Yule) in tho Bongal Merchant in 1840. Their marriage was celebrated on December 31, 1847, at the houso of tho bride's paront, Mr. Alexander Yulo (nowdecoasad), Lower Hutt. Tho Rev. John Englis was tho Minister.
