■ — H> - NEWCASTLE'S RECORD^ BT TELEGHAPn—PRESS ASSOCIATION'—COPTBIOOT, Sydney, December 30. Auother surf bathing fatality has occurred at Newcastle, making three in five days. The following account of ;the gallant rescue effected in the surf at Newcastle, by. the captain of the Fijian cricket team, appears in tho "Sydney Morning Herald" :—'■ The captain of, the Fijian cricket team effected a daring rescue on the Nowcastle beach, this morning (December 23). A number of bathers were enjoying themselves in the surf, when one of thoir number was carried off his.feet by the backwash. ; A companion went to ; assist him, but ho also was caught in tho current, and both were being swept out to sea when tiioir predicament was observed by. Princo Ratu Kadavu Levu, the Fijian captain.. Ho at once plunged into the breakers, and swam out to tlio two meu, who by this time had readied tho outermost lino of rollers. He seized hold of the men, and, after a hard struggle, brought both safely to land, when he was made the recipient of ' hearty congratulations of the assembled bathers. Both of the rescued men were thoroughly exhausted, but under skilful .treatment they soon recovered sufficiently to bo able to proceed to their homes."
