' It is very doubtful whether the King of Spain will venture to undertake such a; long journey as that suggested ,in the above cablegram. Even in Spain special precautions are taken for his protection,' and, apart from this aspect of the question, it .is probable his advisers would not consider it wise to bo absent so long from his Kingdom. - King. Alfonso is most securely and carefully guarded .during the hours of darkness. .Vor four- centuries the slumbers of successive Sovereigns of Spain have been watched all night by the "Monteras de Espinosa"—a body of men to whom is relegated the exclusive privilege of guarding their monarch from sunset to, sunrise. They must: have an honourable military career and be natives of the town of Espinosa.
