-4 '; ' THE : MISSIONS TO SEAMEN'S • CHRISTMAS. Christmas-tido was celebrated in good style by the sailors in port. On Christmas Eva a short service was hold-in".t-ho'church,, .tho Missioner (Mr. Mooro) delivering a suitable addross. Another service was n'old. in the church on Christmas morning at 11 o'clock, when Mr. Moore preached a sermon from L'uke ii. 11, "Forunto you is born this day in tho City of David a Saviour which is Christ tho Lord." Tho church ivas most tastefully decorated. Mr. E. L. Burgess road the lesson, and carols were rendered' by the choir. At 2 . o'clock a picnic was held in- the Institute, when all kinds of parlour games were indulged in under tho leadership of the Missioner. Prizes wero won by tho following Messrs. Taylor, R. S. Jackson, Stockbridgo, Birch, H. Spencer, J. S. Cummings, G. Curnock, Felton, Chadwick, Mine, T. Haggorty. A tug-of-war competition was also held, the Home boat team beating a team of coasters. In the evening Mr. G! W. Barltrop provided a limelight lantern exhibition. A musical programme was contributed to by Messrs. C. Colpus, A. Wells, M'Donald, Riddock, and E. S. Burgess. Miss Cum-, mings and Mr. Colpus played tho piano and banjo accompaniments respectively. A voto of sympathy was passed to Sir. and Mrs. Payne, helpers at tho Mission, on the loss of their daughter. Mrs. Williams, wjio was present during the day, presented tho prizes to tho winners. \ An all-day picnic was held on Boxing Day at Mrs. Rhodcs's grounds, Tho Grange, Wadestown. All kinds of games took placo, and the boxing contests caused much amusement. Tho following won prizes Mesdames Mooro and Craig, Messrs. Walker, Ruby, Bailey, C. Dawton, Sayors, Johnson, W. Sowter, Astoll, Lutte, Suowden, W. Brown, E.'M'Lean, T. West, M. O'Brien, J. Vine, •S', Trixloy, Drumgool, Lawton, Chadwick, Felton, Birch, Anderson, and Kilgour. In the. tug-of-war tlie Paparoa beat tho Cornwall, Fifeshiro beat Indradevi, and a. team from the coasting vessels defeated tho champions. In the evening a concert and another limelight lantern exhibition was given by Mr. Barltrop. Tho following contributed items, to the programme:—Messrs. Kerr, C. Colpus (with banjo), Wilkinson (cornet), and Hyphus (Paparoa): Miss Cummings presided at tho piano. A conundrum competition was won by sailors from ships in port." The prizes, kindly donated by Mesdames, Rhodes and Aldous, wero presented by Mrs. G. W. Barltrop. Hearty cheers wero given to all'who had helped to make the Christmas season such an enjoyable one.
