The Mapourika. arrived at Greymouth early yesterday morning,- and was timed to sail for Westport at 1 p.m.,. and from Westport for Nelson at midnight. She is duo at Wellington this afternoon. 1 THE DORSET. . Tho steamer Dorset, says the "Otago Daily Times," recently purchased ■in ' Tasmania by tho Invercargill Shipping Company, for the southern coastal trade, 'is a twin-screw-, schooner-rigged vessel of 110 tons gross and 50 tons net register. She was built in 1883, and 12 years later was lengthened and rebuilt of hardwood and pine, with copper fastenings. She is 103 ft. 2in. between perpendiculars, 17ft. sin. beam, and Bft. ,sin. depth of hold. She has compound surface condensing engines of 32. horso-powor nominal, and can steam eight knots comfortably when fully loaded, lier draught under these conditions being 6ft. 9in. Sho.-,has accommodation for 20 passengers', and can carry 150 tons of cargo on tho small coal consumption of 31 tons per 2-t hours. Tho Dorset is described as being a very strong vessel, and very suitable for hard work, and having a very -light draught, should be eminently suitable for tho southern trade,: including Rivorton. . , , Captain Furneaux, harbourmaster at Westport, has been advised that tho barquo Monnok.is due. at Westport .shortly from a South American port. It is understood that sho is to load coal for the Islands. « H.M. cruiser Pioneer is'at present at Port Chalmers, where sho will remain some days before proceeding to the Bluff. Advice has been received that tho Government steamer Tutanokai will arrive back in Wollington from Oneliuaea tliis evenine.
