Ovor four thousand attended, aiid the takings amounted to over £200. Notablo absentees wcro D. Pretty, ■Con. Casey, and C. Hutton, but thoir absence made tho ovonts more open. Large fields, contested most of the events. The re-sults-were as-, follow:— Maiden Chop, 15 inch blocks.—Final: G. Murray, 1; I'. Domain, 2; J. Hall, 3. Twenty-seven competed. Time, lmin. 18sec. .Double-handed Sawing Championship ..of Australasia.—Joliansen and Johnson, 1; Morrison and Benbow, 2; Mattson Bros., 3. Nine pairs competed. Time, 2osec. Now Zealand Champion Chop; 2ft. standing blocks. —Esau Pretty, 1; G. M'Cauley, 2; G- Morrison, 3; W. Schishka, 4. Two othors started. Time,'4min. 31 3-ssec. Underhand Hamdicap; 18in. logs; of £50. —Final: M. C. Andreson, 40scc., 1; D. Johnston, 40scc., 2;' E. Pretty, 22sec., 3; J. Craig; 35sec., 4. Thirty-five competed. Timo, lmin. 48sec. Single Sawing Handicap.—J. Hartnell, ssccs., 1; C. Volyke, scr., 2; G. Morrison, 20sec., 3. Eight competed. Largo fields started in the cycling events. Tho principal races wero won by A. E. Parkes, tho scratch man. , To-day tho final for tlio Cup proved a very koon contest. Wost was very consistent, and put in some lusty strokes. Hutton was as preciso as usual, but ho was giving away too much. During tho afternoon tho officials wero called upon to decide, a protest by Morrison against West's chopping, in tho Cup. It was alleged ho had taken a downward stroko on tho top of tho log to start with. The log showed that, a chip had eomo off somehow, but tho official who was watching Yvest was positive ho had not infringed the rule. Tho protest was dismissed, but tho monoy refunded. Thoro wcro only thrco starters in tho underhand championship, and Hutton's chances wore spoiled by a tough log. Ho finished a long way behind. In the first heat of singlehanded sawing Morrison won in 37 2-sscc., but tho final tiino was poorer. Now Zealand Axomon's Cup, of £140, Standing Block sft. Girth: —Final: T.
