INDIAN EXTREMISTS.
NATIONAL CONGRESS. / <: SITTING SUSPENDED IN UPROAR. BY TELEGRAPH—MESS ASSOCIATION—COFTBIGIIT, (Rcc. Dec. 27, 9.26 p.m.) Bombay, December 27. There was an attendance of sevon thousand at tho oponing of the Indian National Congress at Surat, including 2000 delegatos. Tho Extremists interrupted speakers who were counselling moderation in local matters. , Tromcndous uproar followed the nomination of Arabinda Ghoso as President, chiofly on the part of the Bengalese. Ultimately the sitting of the Congress was suspended. Lajpat-Rai, recently deported, and Surendra .Math Banerjee, a journalist, have been spoken of as likely to compete with Arabinda Ghose for the Presidency of the Congress, which was established in 1885. The methods'of the Extremists ,aro exemplified by an incident at Nngpur in September. The "Times" states that for the purpose of creating a local demand for tho appointment of Mr. B. G. Tilok as President of tho Congress this year. Extremist agitators determined to " rush" the meeting of the local committee. M_any persons not members of the committee forced their way into tho ball. Outside, a vast crowd of students and roughs prevented the adpiittance of most of tho Moderates of the committee; their cards wore toru-iip, and they wero subjected to abuse arid insult. Within, the Presidential chair was forcibly seized by two or three leading Extremists, who alleged that thfc meeting had been convened contrary to tho standing regulations. Angry and vituperative language was indulged in, and the meeting had to be dissolved in confusion.
