Lawson —whieh was capsizod while riding at anclior ( at the Scilly Islands, sixteen persons being drowned—is a seven-masted schooner—tho largest in tho world. Tho captain declined tho assistance of two lifeboats, but accepted the aid of a pilot, who was subsequently drowned. The vessel dragged her anchors and drifted close to Annette Rocks, whore she turned turtle. Tho lifeboats, returning, saw tho captain clinging to the rocks. His wrist was broken. Tho pilot's son heroically swam through the breakers, amid jagged rocks, and . rescued tho captain. ' The seven-masted steel schooner Thomas W. Lawson, 5218 tons, was built at Quincy, Massachusetts. in 1902; length 375.0 ft., breadth 50ft., dopth 22.9 ft. Tho big sailer is owned by the Coastwise Transportation Company,' and is registered at Boston.
