Sir Joseph Ward is not expected back is Wellington before Sunday nest. Inspector Ellison returned from Nelsou yesterday morning.
Mr. H. J. H. Blow, Under-Secretary for Public Works, is expected to arrive back tonight from his visit to Auckland. Tho Rav. H. van Staveren and Mrs. van Staveren have returned from a week's visit to Nelson. >
Dr. Makgill, Government Bacteriologist, has returned from a visit to Auckland, made ou departmental business. Dr. Frengley, Wellington District Health Officer, has returned from a departmental, visit to the Wairarapa. The Hon; Dr. Findlay will adhere to his intention of visiting Wanganui to-day and Palmerston. to-vnorrow in connection with prize-giving ■ ceremonies. Lieutenant Shackleton, leader of the Antarctic exploring party, which leaves Lyttelton early in January, arrived from Sydney by tho Maheno. Master Gladstone Ward, a son of the Prime Miuistor, who has been a student at St. Ignatius' College, Parramatta River, is a a passenger by the Maheno, which arrived last night.
Messrs. W. W. Bird (Chief Inspector of Native Schools) and. Porteous (AssistantInspector) have returned to Wellington, from a tour of inspection and examination, of the Native schools of the North Island. The Native school at Chatham Island will be inspected by Mr. Porteous early in tho New Year.
The Accountant Students' Society, .which held its fifth annual meeting last night, resolved, amidst applause, that the invaluable services of Mr. E. W. Hunt, who had resigned the position of secretary (which he had held since the inception of the Society), "be recorded on tho minutes'. Notice of motion was given that Mr. Hunt he elocted a life member\ of the Society.
Mr. Ernest W: /Hunt has resigned. the secretaryship.; of.the Wellington Accountants Students' Society. Mr. Hunt was instrumental in forming the Society (the first of its kind in New Zealand), some: five yearsago,-" and has acted as secretary ever since. Sinco then the lead given in Wellington has been followed elsewhere, and always with' success. Mr. Hunt's solo reason for retiring is pressure of work.
At tlio annual meeting of the Yorkshire Society last evoning the president referred to the loss sustained through the death of the late Rev. J. C. Andrew, who had been a member of the Society. v He was oWO of the founders of the Society, said the President, and for many years had been President, and had taken great interest in their affairs. Apart from his many fine qualities, his scholastic attainments, and his masteriul mind, he had'been a true and good Yorkshireman. (Hear, hear.) The members then stood while a resolution was carried recording the Society's sense of its loss sustained in Mr. Andrew's death, and expressing condolence with tho bereaved widow and relatives.
