Weddings, Miss Lucy Field,'only daughter of Mr. H. Field, late secretary of tho New Zealand Employers Federation, was married yesterday afternoon at Wesley Church, Tarana'ki Street, to Mr. H. E. Baker, of tho Roads Department, To Kuiti. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. T. S. Jones. Yesterday afternoon at St. Peter's Church Miss Evelyn Alice Dentice, daughter of Air. A. J. Dentice, was married to Mr. John Bain Thomson, of Hastings. Tho Rev. 0. P. Davys performed the ceremony. The brido, who wore a frock of whito niiron de soie, wit , veil and orange blossom, was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Violet Dontice, her cousin, and Miss Gertrude Smith, and three In girls actod as flower girls. Mr. W. Knyvette was best man, and Mr. A. Dontice groomsman. Tho bride's parents celebrated thoir silver wedding day at the same time, and tliorc was a social gathering at the Masonic Jtlall m the evening. At St- John's Church yesterday afternoon Mr. James Fleming, of Halcombe, was married to Miss Minnie Franklin, daughter of Mr. .AY. Franklin, foreman of the bookbing ■ department of the Government 'Printing Office. Miss Nellie Thompson acted as bridesmaid, and Mr. Fred Thompson was best man. At the conclusion of the ceremony, which was performed by the itev. James I'aterson, a reception was held at " Hazlemoro," the residence of Mr. M Maiithel , (brother-in-law to the bride), in Roxburgh Street. \

. Jho reeling of Christmas is in the air, and preparations are being mado on all hands for tho celebration of what is pre-eminently the Children's Day. At all institutions where there are children, Santa Glaus is sure to make his .appearance, and missions ; and societies will see that the children attachod to them are not neglected. Association in its city ;work comes into contact with many children, and there is to bo a Christmas-tree and celebration for their especial bentfit onS the afternoon of December 18 in St. John's ■schoolroom. Dr. and Mrs. A. L. Napier Maclean are staying with Mrs. Butt on the Terrace until their own new house is completed. .The first annual meeting of tho Victoria League is to be held in No. 1 CommitteeRoom of tho Town Hall on Thursday, at 8 p.m., when the annual report will be presented a'nd officers elected for tho ensuing year. One willing worker, whoso efforts on bohalf of Hospital Saturday wore not noted in any roport, was a midget nurse of three or four years who was stationed in Manners Street under the care of a grown-up nurse. Tho little girl was dressed in a complete nurso's costume, and took a great interest in the proceedings of tho day. A social evening was held in tho Now Century Half yesterday, in honour of Miss Minnie Ranger, who is to bo married tomorrow to Mr. H. R. Searle. Thero wore about 100 present, and a pleasant evening was spent. The dance music was supplied Miss Murphy, and the catering was in the hands of Mr. James Godber. Mrs. Crumm and Mr. Kitto marshalled the dancers. A number of songs were contributed during the evening.
