MANAWATU NOTES.
(fkok our own correspondent.) The Cheltenham Dairy Company are turning out a ton. of butter a' day; tho highest test being 4. Tests are generally higher on the average than last year. At 'present one fanner is supplying Cheltenham with 10051b.> of milk from '26 cows of mixed breed, chiefly Shorthorn, with a test of 3.4. Another man averages 341b. per cow from 40 cows of the Bame class, his test being also 3.4. On-asking a leading dealer his opinion as to the best stock market in tho Island, I was informed that Feilding stands first, Waipukurau being a good second,' with Palmcreton. third. ' Asked as to the prospects if all Bales jwerc conducted in tho same yards as at I'almerston," the dealer replied that he was certain the result would be more satisfactory for the vendor, purchaser, and auctioneers. ■ Several oat crops have come in early in the Cheltenham 'district, some being ready to cut, and others oa tho verge of being cut. Oats have not been extensively grown. The hay crops are showing good prospects. Regarding the shearing, some trouble exists as in other localities on account of insufficient labour. Around Pohangira sheepbroedors hayo every reason to be grateful with the season's clip.
