GIRL IN A TRANCE.
A SYDNEY MYSTERY. A girl, aged lGj, named Addio Bowden, living at Glebe Point, Sydney, has been causing a great deal of anxiety during tho last Couple of years by going into what appears to be a Semi-conscious condition, called by lier friqncls a trance. ','When ify this condition tho girl', according to the ''Sydney Morning Herald," can some times walk about, but' she cannot speak. Sho takes but' little food. Her appearance is. naturally bright and healthy, but when a \fit oii she turns...exceedingly pale. Hor 'eyes'.'are apparently closed, yet it is stated that she can get about and recognise people as though she could, see. . Sho plays the, piano and does maiiy like tilings as well asMvlien in her normal condition.- > Until recently these turns, which started' shortly after the girl had been operated un for i a growth in tho nose, wero of comparatively short duration, but her friends aro now greatly concernedas sho has been in this .unnatural condition for more than a fortnight. During that time she has frequently made noises and signs indicating that sho is in great pain, but at other times she appears untroubled. Several attempts have been mado to cure her, and amongst other tilings'' hypnotism has been tried, but po far no perceptiblo improvement has taken place. Somo people,aro inclined to think that tbi" is a bad case of hysteria, but medical expert opinion could not be definitely obtained.
