HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

0The ordinary meeting of the Hutt Borough Council was held last night, there being present:—The Mayor (Mr. T. A. Peterkin), Councillors Holland, Baldwin, Russell, O'Sullivan, Judd, and Wildsmith. ' The resignation' of the Town Clerk (Mr. P. K. Purser) was referred to when the minutes were being confirmed. It was stated that Mr. Purser had withdrawn his resignation. A letter was received from Messrs. Findlay Dalziell and Company pointing out that tho previous resolution authorising tho laying out of Onehuka Road to a width of 40ft. had been made under the Public Works Act, whereas it should be under Section 23G of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1900. They forwarded a draft resolution, which would put the matter right. The suggested resolution was adopted. Mr. M. J. Hodgins tendered his resignation of the office of poundkeeper to the Council, and intimated that he had made arrangements with Mr. Twomey to carry 011 the duties until ' the end of tho year, when tho pound is to be removed to tho section purchased from Mr. Twomey. It was decided to accept Mr. Hodgin's resignation, and advertise for his successor. Mr.' P. L. Harnett wrote offering to soil a pieco of land, in area 14 perches, adjoining the site of tho new school, for the purpose of widening tho King's Road Extension. The price asked was at tlic rate of ,£750 per acre, the option to expire in three days. It was pointed o.ut that Mr. Harnett had previously offered the same land at the rate of .£350 per acre. It was decided that the wholo of tho correspondence be submitted to tho Council's solicitor for an opinion on the matter. The engineer's report showed that the following works were well in hand:—Waterworks pipe-laving, ongine-room and erection of engines, lethal chamber, street drainage, sanitary work,'and kcrbing. Tho expenditure chargeable to the District Fund Account and the ,£52,000 Loan Account was stated to bo .£97 9s. 3d., and ,£323 13s. lOd. respectively. Councillor Baldwin moved that the resolution ■ passed 011 October 23, instructing tho Building Inspector not to issue a permit for the removal of Mr. ■Devereux's old building (occupied by Messrs. Slinn and Carter) to tho ! front of the section .and for the re-instatemont of same, bo rescinded. The motion was seconded and passed. The Mayor moved that Mr. Huggins 1)8 re- ; quested to pull down the building upon his ; land, part of section 24, fronting the main 1 road, in accordance with a condemnation notice received from tho Public Health' Department by the previous owner. This was carried.
