WAR ON RABBITS.
THE DANYSZ VIRUS.
NO DANGER, BUT NOT EFFICIENT. DR. TIDSWELL'S REPORT. BY TELEGRAM—rRESS ASSOCIATION— COFi'MaHT. ,~_ (Rec. Nov. 23, 0.22 a.m.) Sydney, November 22. Dr. Tidswcll, who, as representative of tho Federal and tho State Governments, watched tho experiments at Broughton Island with tho virus for rabbit destruction prepared by Dr. Danysz, has presented his roport. Ho finds that tho efficiency of tho virus as a destroyer of rabbits has not been demonstrated; also, that although the microbe might bo mado to infect certain small animals, there is no reason to apprehend any danger from its practical use. Dr. Tidswcll points out that a similar or ac,loast an indistinguishable virus has been known for years, and its natural bohaviour on tho mainland of Australia has not sufficed to keep the rabbits in check, and no results that have como out in the experiments indicate that tho virus could be artificially manipulated' with greater efficiency.
.Dr. Tidswcll concludes that thero need bo no apprehension of danger to human beings from the use of the vims, whilo the risk to other animals is remote. *
