A return asked for by Mr. Lang shows tint tho cost to date for inspection of bone-dust in India is £151G 19s. Bd., the quantity imported . since- the inspection was instituted being 11,932 tons. The Crown Law Officers have advised that the Chinese immigrants Amendment Act li[\\ will require to bo reserved for the Royal Assent. The Governor has therefore made an amendment providing that the Act shall not come into operation until His Majesty's assent thereto has been signified. ' Both Houses of Parliament yesterday formally agreed to the amendment. The disagreement of the two Houses over a detail of the Bills of-Exchange Act Amendment Bill, after being the subject of negotiations for several days, has now been settled. The managers appointed by both Houses submitted an amendment providing that no cheques, etc., shall be destroyed by a banker prior to the. expiration of three months after the passing ef' this Act, or at any time after a demniifl for the delivery of the same Jias been made to the banker by the person entitled thereto. Both .Houses have agreed to accept the recommendation.
