Tho fortnightly meeting of tho Karori Borough Council was held last night, therebeing present:—Tho Mayor (Mr. A. C. Pcarco), Councillors Lissington, Hammond, Spiers, Cathie, Murdoch, Smith, Putnam, and Clark. Tho Mayor, who had recently returned' from a trip to England, was cordially wcl-' corned on resuming his seat at tho head of the Council table. The' Assistant Electrical Engineer to the Wellington City Council wrote intimating that tho work of erecting twenty-ono new street lamps within > the borough would bo proceeded with at onco. Tho secretary of the Boncyolenfc Trustees (Mr. H. 11. Truoliriilgo)' wrote notifying tho Council of the election of six trustees for the institution, to take place on December 2. and requesting that a delegate be appointed to attend the election. Similar notifications wore received in respect of the election, on November 27, of a representative to act on the Wellington District Hospital Board, and tho Wellington and Wnirarapa Charitable Aid Board. A lotter was received from tho Karori Golf Links Syndicate, Limited, with refcrenco to tho Council's specification that now roads must be ballasted with first-class metal. It was pointed out that a " free " interpretation had hitherto been given to this particular specification, but tho impression now obtained among contractors was that tho metal specified, could only bo procured from a certain quarry in Northland. Great cxpenso would bo entailed if this condition were insisted upon. Tho Syndicate was pronared to uso tho best- metal obtainable on its property, and asked that this bo agreed to.
Tt was decided to ask the syndicate to submit n samplo of the motal proposed to bo used. There woro no reports from the Council's officers.
