Tho Betono Borough Council held thoir usual fortnightly meeting last night. There woro present: Tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'JEwan) and Councillors Coles, Smith, Colquhoun, .Nicholson, Harding, Lodder, Castle, . and ;Sputhgato; f-y ■<-■ » j ; > A letter was'received'from tho Secretary I of the Wellington Rugby Union asking for. the statement showing tho .attendance at tho matches during last season. Tho Mayor moved that the Town Clerk should furnish tho necessary information.' The Potpno N avals applied to tho Council for a subsidy in respect of cutters for lifer saving purposes. Tho Mayor moved, and Councillor Castle seconded, that tho brigade should bo paid £10 to help them on with their schemo. Dr. Purdy reported a caso of phthisis in the district. J' 1 :; sFor ,tho month of October nine now buildings'alidoiio addition'have been erected at an estimated value of £3533, making a total ofi 77 for thoiourrent year, ./tho. estimated ..value, being £18,184. ■■■:;., Tho credit balance in connection with the settling tank account is now £210, and a • complete all works in coniiectiQn.'tith:the„:,same. Tenders havo been .issued;-for tho caretaker's rosidonco, and tho site 7 'has:.been •'.prepared. Tho. tenders of Messrs. Lb.wiiirand.'Bull, wero accepted. Tho ■ Town Clerk received a lottor from 'Mr, T. M. iWilford 'acknowledging tho 'receipt, of the claiiso to create Section 10 in !thb.'Hutt,:distrJpt; a; noxious trades area, and •stating-'•Th.at::;ho::would -dp his best to get the samo inserted in the. "washing-up bill." Tho Engineor roported'that " soveral quotations have boon received for motor waggons, but there is still somo data to bo obtained regarding running costs, etc. Owing to tho nrcssuro of other work; I havo been unablo to give tho matter attention during tho last month. Preparations will bo mado at once to start the tarring and sanding of Jackson Street. „ Plans for. an ambulanco shed aro submitted horowith for consideration and adoption. Tho working and tracing of Jiidd sub-division has boon received, and is ready for adoption. I rocommend that it bo approved, the owner to bo given tho option of lowering tho roadway by 10 inches, if ho so wished:'' : ".This was approved, subject to modification mentioned by tho engineer. ;■ Tho ireport was adopted.
