BARQUE IN TROUBLE

MASTS CUT AWAY. TERRIBLE TIME OFF NEW SOUTH 'WALES COAST. DY TIMGRArn—IT.ESS ASSOCIATION'—COPTTUGIIT. (Rcc. Nov. 12, 11.43 p.m.) Sydney, November 12. The barque Bcngairn, which loft Newcastle for Antofagasta (Chili)- on November 2, was to-day towed into Sydney in a crippled condition. She had thrilling experiences on the coast. After making the offing, the barque encountered a terrific gale. The cargo shifted, and the barque, with a great lurch, went on her beam ends. Groat seas thundered all over her. The hatch coverings started, and water began to find its way below. The masts had to be cut away to save the vessel. The Bcngairn was at times 500 miles off shore, but managed to make the coast safely. The Renftairn is'a steel four-masted barque, 2127 tons, 100 Al at Lloyd's, built'at Glasgow in 1890. The owners are J. and J. Rao and Company.
