NATIVE-LANDS ADMINISTRATION.
DILATOEINESS OP THE DEPARTMENT. '(FROST OUR OWN ;CORRESPONDENT.) , .-, . .'' ' « ; IVlasterton, October 28, ; ■ Considerable feeling is being displayed.'by Natives here over,, the, alleged dilatorirtess of the Native Lands Department, with regard to the fulfilment of recommendations for lease or sale which have, been made by the Land Court. These recommendations' havo been made after the fullest enquiries regarding.tho lands, so that the Natives nave been protecied in every way, but they, have not been. given effect to. Tlie i-esiilt is that there are batches of. recommendations reposing peacefully in the 'archives of the Native Lands Department, and at the expiration of six months, their, power will lapse, and the whole business will havo to be gone over again.: ... It, is contended that this delay means a considerable loss of public money, and that tho system is bad.' A proffered solution is that Native Land Court judges should be empowered with : the same authority as Supreme Court judges. Their recommendation would not then be dependent upon the will of a Minister. ' ' _'■ ' ■■■ '■' ■;■:'.- " A deputation is to interview the Premier 0:1 the matter at an early date.' ■
