PHOTOCRAPHIC INGENUITY.
" Many ways have boon devised for taking bird's-eye views of tho face of the country such as from balloons, parachutes, and kites. I now hear," says Mr. Hector Maclean, iri tho "Morning Post," that a Gorman , inventor, Herr Mario, has designed a projectile which will take a snapshot at a distance of 'half a mile or less from tho surface of tho earth. Briefly _ put, it consists of a conical shell containing tho camera, lens, film, etc., which by means of a kind of spring gun is shot up into the air with a velocity varied according to the height at which it is desired to make an exposure. At tho moment tljai the sholl roaches its highest position, and whilo it is therefore almost stationary, its point turns earthward, and as soon as jr. reaches an angle which ■is nearly perpondicular to the plane of tho earth tho shutter is automatically released, and so brief an exposure made that a sharp print will result. For military or naval purposes this may provo of considerable value.,'
