YACHTING. . .; ; ~.. POET NICHOLSON CLUB. A Committee meeting of the Port Nicholson Facht Club was held on Monday evening. There were present:—Dr. Fell (commodore), Sir. E.. C. E. Mills (rear-commodore), Dr. Maki?ill, and Messrs. W. Highet, R. Morse, J.' Al'LeavW. S. Downcs, C. M'Keegan, S. E. Forbes (lion, treasurer), and. A. M. Holmes (hon. secretary). '■ ■ .• '. ; The Committee entered into the details of the work before them this season with enthusiasm. Tho opening day of the Club was fixed for Nov. 9, and, in combination with tho Motor Boat Club, a grand procession past the Queen's wharf will take placo between ten,and eloven o'clock. . After this the whole fleet will proceed to Somaes Island, accompanied by a ntemner, which will accommodate members and their friends. "

After a lengthy technical discussion, tho Committee unanimously agreed that the now international rating rule should be of great value to the Club, in so far as it would develop a healthy tjpe of boat. New courses have been planned, which will give tho yachts a better test this season, by affording a run, a beat to.windward and a lead —the only true test of the qualities of a yacht. The course will not only bo a bettor one for the yachts, but will bo more in view of the public, as it will be for first and secondclass yachts from the starting-line (between the Glasgow wharf and the north-east corner of Te.Aro Baths), to Halewell Point, and from there to tho Kbro Koro buoy and back to and round Halswoll, and from there to the start-' ing-line, whicli will also be tlie finishing line. The third-Gins? yachts will sail from The same etarting-linp to the buoy at Point Jerninghain, and from there to, and round, the buoy at Ngahauranga, and back to Point Jerningharn; finishing at the starting-lino. The classification of yachts for tho Club's handicap races is as'follows: —

Ist Class—Waitangi, Ngaire, Siren, Aorangi. 2nd Class—Atalanta, Janet, WaireiV Petrel Muritai, Mahina, Kotiri, Nancy Stair, Viking' While wings, Patronus, Taipare. The 3rd Class will consist of the balance of the Club's fleet, which includes a number of boats owned by younger members. This class will include: Mahaki, May, Karaka, ' lbox Malua, Tui, Huin, and three or four others in course of construction.

CRICKET. PUBLIC, SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION. : Tho annual meeting of tho Wellington Public bchools Cricket Association was held last evening Mr. G. M'Morran presiding Tho report states that Clyde Quay again won the senior championship, and Kilbirnio the junior championship. The/annual match betweon Wellington and Wair/irapa resulted in a draw. A suggestion was made that in futuro these games should bo played during tho week-end preceding the week in which tho ' schools breakup for the midsummer holidays. Thanks arc extended to the Wellington Cricket Association, the Junior Association, and to-Messrs. I'leming, Bethune, Aitken,'M'Morran, and the various schools and masters who donated to the funds of the Association,' also to-Mr. Fanning. Tho balance-slieet shows cbeli in hand amounting to A'l3 9s. Id., and assets valued at .£3 3s. The liabilities are nil. The adoption of the report and balance-sheet was nereed to. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr r. K. Fleming; President, Mr. W. Foster; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. Joplin, A. M'lCcnzie, H. A. Parkinson; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. It. Darrock; hon. auditor, Mr. A. M'Kenzie; Senior Selection Committee, Messrs lleinpleman, Fanning, arid Darrock; Junior Selection Committee, Messrs. Joplin, Amis, and laylor; Transfer and Postponement Committee, Messrs. Hemplomau, Fanning, and Darrnck. ' ■". An application from the Jolmsonville School for. admission to the Association was accepted on condition that satisfactory train arrange-' ments can be made. The secretary was instructed to endeavour to arrange a match between tho Wellington and country teachers for the King's Birthday Mr. Diirrock moved:—''(a) That in rule one of (ho Association, Public Schools shall monn nil schools in Wellington inspected by the Wellington Education Bonn! inspectors; and (b) That the Marist Brothers School bo admitted to this I'.S.C.A." After some discussion the motion wns lost.
