ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS. LIST 01? SUCCESSFUL-CANDI-DATES. Following is the list of tho successful candidatos for St. John's Ambulance Association's first aid certificates. Tho Wellington Centro i has oontrbllqd classes covering a'.wido area this year. - Besides thoso bold in Wellington, classes have been conductod' at Petone. Lower' Hutt, : Upper Hutt, Mnrtiuoorough, Mastorton, Feilding, Palmorston_ North, Marton, Takapau, and Greyinouth. Tho local centroalso controls Napier and \yanganui. The oliief object of the Association,^as modt people are aware, 'is to disseminate instruction in- "first, aid" to the sick and injured, and in arranging for accessible appliances for use in case of accidonts. "The medical man," says the Controls , seorotary (Mr. J. D. Avery), "shows a cheerful readiness in helping tho_ work of tho Association. They give lectures to students on various subjects concorned in tho application of first aid, and six of such loctures have to bo attended before the students aro oligiblo for examination. I find that the valuo of first aid instruction is becoming more and more genorally recognised as time goes on, as instanco tlio recent cable* messago stating that tho Board of Trado for tho futuro will mako: the. holding /of a first-aid certificate compulsory in the case, of master's and mato's examinations. This year there has beon a largo numbor of students, including a number of police probationers, who have attended lectures, and obtained passes."
