The Otaki Maori Racing- Club. concluded its Spring' meeting yesterday. .The weather was again very bad, itnd in most eases the fields were small. The principal event was won by the Fqxtonowned Wnitapn, who showed a great improvement ou his form of yesterday. The; totalisator staff, undor Mr. . Dividond, ,El.Bs. ; NOTES ON THE RACING. • Nothing bat Waihuka would go down with punters for tho Railway Handicap, and the JJew Plymouth horse .was first out and was never headed. Flotilla ran well for a good portion of the journey, but her condition failed her -at tho finish. Splondid Idea has not been up long enough, but may score at Masterton.

On the first day's form Te Kainiiiwas ■ made favourite in the Hurdles, but the 1 maiden winner, St. Amelia, beat every- \ thing for pace at the finish, and won i easily. The favourite finished last, and ' is not up to weight*, carrying. Voucher! ran a much better raco yesterday, but j could only run third. A host of peopls ! expected Papareabi to show improved '■ form yesterday, and ho wont, out second [ favourite. Hurimoana was tho only, - withdrawal from the race. i Saga, Turkish Maid, and Galahad, were i withdrawn from the Otaki Handicap. '; Gnuzo was roado a slightly better favour- ', ite than _ Lady Disdain. The latter had . the services of S. Reid, and won very ; comfortably. Gauze must have been suf- : fcriug from the effects of tho sovere race ! she had on the previous day. . , ■ ■ :. ' Fond Memory was withdrawn from' the'. Trial Handicap. The three placed horses ' wero well backed, but tho others wero neglected. The winner is a nice-looking • mare by St. Clements, and inherits the : galloping powers of her sire. She was ■ ridden by R. Barlow, who is very clever at the barrier. ; Waitapu was not fancicd ' much for ' tho Demonstration Handicap, but ho<was; short of a gallop on Wednesday, and Was ' a much improved horse yesterday. Rend-} rock was tho public selection, with Tho • Stake next, but they were both easily de- / feated. William is not a good horse in r the soft going. Moala and- Saga were ) not prominent in the closing stages of tho race. '• - " 1 Hurimoana was' made a 5 to 2 oni favourito in tho Welter Handicap. His '. supporters had no cause for uneasiness, 1 as Home's horse won in the simplest possible manner. • ■ I Marseillaise was out first in the Elee- { trie Hack and was never headed. •. Her owner did not participate in tho good | dividend returned. Golden Eagle was I made favourite, but ran badly and re-. 'quires a spell. Pearlie.got away well* and was .with the leaders till the final* 1 ] pinch, when sho stopped. Noy. come | very fast at the end, alter getting away, badly. I ThoN.Z.iCup candidate Paritntu was ; greatly admired iu the paddock before j the Welter Handicap, and it was generally considered that he ' very fit. The opposition ho met was of] a poor nature, but he could do no more ', than win,, and he did that easily.. .- i NAPJER PARK RACING CLUB MEET-'! . '' i. . - ING. '.; '.','- •■!
