Sir "WiJfricl Lauricr, speaking at a meeting of the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, at Toronto, said ho personally favoured universal free trade within the Empire. Canada was ready to support reciprocity in trade within the Empire, but tho Motherland was unready. The interests of Canada, tho Prime •Minister continued, had been constantly sacrificed in diplomatic negotiations with the United States. He now thought it was better that she should conduct negotiations herself than that she should trust.to those flio were displaying only a perfunctory interest. It would be an act of panic, salt: Sir Wilfrid, to denounce tho Japancsi treaty when Canada was only just Bobinning to reap tho benefits of it.Commission might investigate tho subject.
