Tho Huddorsfield Chamber of Commerco adopted a resolution protesting against tho enforcement of tlie Commonwealth tariff without merchants being afforded adequate opportunity of carrying out existing contracts. Mr. Brooke, who proposed the resolution, declared that it was unfair to trap traders into sending goods at 15 per cent, duty before the tariff was imposed, and to charge 30 per cent, when tho goods reached Australia. Alderman Walker, in seconding the motion, said a greater injustice was never perpetrated by any Government. Hitherto time had always been allowed before enforcing new duties.
