Lowburn Hall Committee

The annual meeting of residents in connection with the above was held on Thursday, August sth. Thirteen residents were present, the President (MrR. Haig) in the chair. Minutes of the meeting of the retiring executive, relative to the ball held on June 25th, were confirmed. The statement of receipts and expenditure of the hall for the year ended July 17th, 1926, was read and adopted. This sSbwcd a balance in hind of £6 18s 6d. The statement in regard to the recent ball, held on the completion of renovation, showed a nett profit of £ls 5s 9d. The secretary (Mr H. C. Bilton) reported on the insurances covering the hall and the conditions of the policy. The amounts now are: Buildiug £d2o, furnishings and crockery £3O, piano .£SO.

On the election of chairman, Mr Haig considered the office should be a rolling one. Several present declined the office, Hnl Mr Haig was unanimously re-elected for the ensuing ycr.r.

It was decide! that the executive be limited to seven, and the following were appointed : —Messrs 11. Haig (chairman), J. ' Fiillay (secretary), D. Brcthorton ''caretaker), 11. Willsou, 11. Pcrriam, J. Kitto, and D. McMillan. Mr lid ton stated that he desired to relinquish the position of secretary, and a hearty vote of thanks for his past >erdecs was carried by acclamation. Mr Brothcrton asked if the hall would be granted free for the school children's dance on August 27th. After some discussion a motion was put forward in favor of granting the request. An amendment was that a charge of 10s be made to cover the halts out-of-pocket expsnses'for carbide or kerosene. The voting was equal and the chairman gave his casting vote in favor of the motion.

Mr Bilton read a draft form of a petition to the Postmaster-General for a daily mail service Cromwell to Lowburn, which was approved. lhe meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
