Lowburn Notes.
[From ouk own Cokhksi’ondknt.J Thu sale of Mr Thos. Johnston’s well-known farm, and the retirement of Mr Johnston from farm duties, removes another landmark from our midst. In former years Mr Johnston was much sought after by his neighbors to attend sick animals-. Although not a vet., Mr Johnston was possessed of a great deal of what is generally known as *’ horse sense,” and this, combined with ability and patience, saved the lives of many valuable animals in the district. Mr Johnston refused no call for help, until his increasing years caused him to realise that he must take care of himself. There are few in the district who have suffered and profited more by the ravages and benefits of lire and water than Mr Johnston That he has brought up a large family, and in his declining years is able to retire, proves him a man of grit and perseverance, and we wish him much happiness in his future years. To Mr Johnston’s successor, Mr Jas. Varcoc, we bid welcome, and a hearty appreciation of his pluck and industry. May he carry the farm as far forward as Mr Johnston lias done.
