Methodist service* on Sanday next will be conducted as follows • Cromwell 7 p.in, Mr S. Stephens, Bendigo J1 a.m. Lowburn :> p.m, Bannockburn 7 p.m, Mr W. Watson. An official memorandum has been issued by the Commonwealth Customs Department, stating that several samples of Australian-made boots and shoes, in which cardboard-paper instead of leather forms the principal part of the soles and heels, have been brought under the notice of the Minister of Customs. Mr Tudor i-s not uncertain ' n bis condemnation of the contemptible conduct of manufacturers aud retailers who are responsible for these frauds on the public but the Commonwealth Government have no power at present to intervene in regard to goods manufactured solely for the local market. Mr Tudor is seriously covuMeriug whether he may not be justified in taking the responsibility of having strict inquiry made, and publishing throughout Australia the names not only of manufacturers, but of retailers dealing in these goods, so that the public may lie duly warned, and bona fide manufacturers protected from the effects of such competition, which is not only a disgrace to the trade, hut a menace to tin'good name of an Australian industry. i
