PEMBROKE RAILWAY

LBAG ITEl T E

The annual meeting of the above league was held in the Olympic Hall, on 15th February, when the secretary submitted the following report:— “At the last annual meeting tha following gentlemen were . elected members of the executive for the ensuing year : Messrs R. M‘Dougall senr., Rev. A. D. Mitchell, A. G. Thomson, A, M'Dougall, T. J. Pearce, Theo. Russell, Rd. Norman, H. Barker, J. Perrow, C. Ewing. Mr R. M'Dougall was elected president, and the Rev. A. D. Mitchell vicepresident, with Mr A. G. Thomson as secretary. In February, Mr A. G. Thomson tendered his resignation as secretary, which was accepted with regret, and Mr A. M'Dougall was elected in his place. In April, several members of the league visited Clyde to attend the opening of the line to that place, and in conjunction with members from the other leagues they used every possible effort to prevent even a temporary stoppage at Clyde, but without avail. Since then, protests have also been forwarded to the Minister for Railways and the Prime Minister, but no success has attended these protests. The present committee are now out of power, but hope their successors will still carry on the work, and in conjunction with other leagues meet the Prime Minister and Ministerial Party when they visit the district, which is projected for some time next month. We hope the Ministerial party will visit Pembroke, but in the event of their not coming beyond Cromwell, that matters be arranged so that the district leagues will meet them in Cromwell and again protest as strongly, if not stronger, than the past committee has done. Unfortunately the cost of defraying incidental expenses has fallen on a few only. As the extension of the railway will be for the good of all, those who are not doing active work on the committee should contribute a few shillings each to keep the League in existence.” On the motion of Mr Theo. Russell the report was adopted.

On the motion of Rev Mr .Chandler

the meeting was adjourned till the 22nd February. At the adjourned meeting the following were present : Messrs J. Studholrae, Theo. Russell, H. Studholme, junr., D. Wyllio, E. Barker, A. M'Dougall, R. M'Dougall, and W. Bovett The following were also elected members ,nf the league : Messrs J, Miller, 1). Miller, R. Halliday, F. Hancock, T. Pearce, T. Russell, J. Faulks, Jas. Templeton, Thos. Templeton, J. Ironside, J. Perrow, 11. Maidman, F. Thomson, Rev. A. G. Chandler, Rev A. D. Mitchell, W. Scaife, R. Elliott, G. Elliott, R. Norman, C, Ewing, J. Malcolm, J. Ford, and J. Scott.

Mr H. M‘Dougall was re-elected as president, and Mr A. M'Dougall secretary and treasurer. It was decided to hold a meeting in the library on the second Thursday every month, and member’s fee was fixed at 2s Gd, all present paying their subscription. A hearty vote of thanks to the old committee for their services, and the usual vote to the chair terminated the meeting.
