SAVERI DRAMATIC COMPANY.
Thy above company will make their appearance in the Athenamm Hall Cromwell, on Wednesday October 3rd. Mr Frank Huston, the travelling representative, informs us that the company have just concluded a most successful season in Inv«rcargill, and are at present showing in the provincial towns of Sontnland prior to the Goldfields' tour. The tirst production to be produced here will be Sim and Pettitt's sensational and historical drama "A Brother's Crime."' It abounds with the element of comedy, and the story is one of a strangely touching nature, brilliant and powerful, and intensely interesting, possessed of all the elements which go to make up a successful drama. From the beautiful maiden whose hand is sought in marriage, the scheming villian, the handsome hero, and the money lending disciple of Shylock, we may safely say that it is the gem of the repertoire, and it is undoubtedly a dramatic gem of tho first order. Mr Peter Saveri, the well known comedian, plays the part of Simon Lazarus, a Jewish money-lender, a part which gives this clever artist an opportunity for raising laughter. Mr Saveri who has played
some of the leading roles through New Zealand under engagement to the Anderson Dramatic, M'Mahon, Woods', Williamson and Fitz-Maurice Gill Companies, is well supported by Miss Betterton Glover, an English actress of repute. Besides Mr James Fraser (stage manager) the organisation includes Miss Birdie Foley. Miss Barbara Rogers a popular soubrette, Miss Martelli, Mr Williams, Mr R. Howard. Mr Harry Bartlett, Mr Frank Grist, Mr Ernest Gunn and others. Mr. Bland is mechanical and Miss Janic Johnstone, musical directress. The second production " The Guv-nor " will be produced on Wednesday evening. •' The Guv-nor " is a well known farcical comedy by Lankestcr. The fun will be fast and furious, the complications being caused by a jealous husband, a deaf boatman, a groom out of livery and a Scotchman in search of an overcoat. Mr Saveri will play the part of Mr Butterscotch, " The Guvnor." Miss Betterton Glover will play " Aureta," his second wife, and Mr J. D. Williams, Macclesfield, the deaf boatman. During the evening Mr Harry Bartlett will sing''ln the Shade of the Old Apple Tree," and Miss Janie Johnstone will sing *' Killarney."
