Volunteer Notes.

By Bull's Eye.

In the shoot for the money prizes, presented by Capt Mackenzie aDd Lieut Jolly, Private Cahill laafc week put on the splendid score of 64 out of a possible 70 from scratch, Private Strang tying him with his handicap. This week Private E Marshall leads with a score of 65 points, with 12 points of a handicap. The Rifle Championship of the Colony for 1905 has been won by Milroy, of Nelson, with a total of 507 points. He has shot consistently all through the meeting and deserves his win.

The time for the Goldfields' Challenge Shield is drawing near, there being only another week. The local «hots are not practising as consistently as we would like to see them. If they wish to make a stand on the 17th they must go in for more practise. We are sorry to hear that Private J Smith, who has been shooting at Trentham, will be unable to represent Oromwell as one of the team in the shield match.

The team to represent the Oromwell Rifles in the Challenge Shield Matcn will be picked from the following : Lieuta Jolly and Tidey, Sergt Wright* -on, Corps Thomas, Holden, Privates Cahill, Olds. Emergencies: Sergt Bruce.

Capt Mackenzie's drag will leave for Alexandra on Thursday, 16th March, at 2 p.m. A handicap match for £l, presented by Capt Mackenzie and a vernier by Lieut Tidey, will be shot for on Friday, 29th March; Saturday, 25th; and Wednesday, 29th March. Seven shots each at 200 and 300 yds, with two optional sighters. We would remind competitors that this com* petition counts for the year's medal. The following are the winners of the Handicap Match for money prizes presented by Capt Mackenzie and Lieut Jolly :—Private Olds (scratch) 67, Ist; Private E. Marshall (12 points) 65, 2nd ; Private Cahill (scratch) 64, 3rd. Waimea Rifles pulled off the Champion Teams' match with a score of 164.

Milroy should feel proud of himself, as at the presentation of prizes he was decorated with the belt and photos graphed.
