A COMPLAINT FROM LOWBURN.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Through your valuable paper I wish to draw the attention of the public in general, and the Vincent County Council in particular, to the following facts ’ _ , 1. That there is a place called the Lowburn. 2. The road to such place goes at the back of the Lowburn schoolhouae, along a sidling of nearly 45 degrees, being the natural slope of the terrace, never yet touched by the Government stroke. For many months the member for the riding was spoken to about the matter, and always promised to see it rectified. On one occasion he told one of the residents that it would be all i igh“ because the engineer had been to look at it. That of course ought to have been enough to quell any murmur. Just fancy! The live hundred-pounder had looked at it; apparently a case of vent, vidi, vici. So this modern Caisar came and looked and—collared his screw. Some five weeks ago the sum of £5 was voted for this work, but up to date nothing has been done. No doubt the engineer has again been to look at it, and that should do for the present. As the matter stands at present, the residents here whenever they have to visit Cromwell with their wives and families do so at risk of life and limb, and an accident is sure to happen sooijiei dr later, especially as the dark nights of winter will again be on us shortly. Furthermore, I find great fault with Mr Tobin, member for this riding, for not having a piece of work of such urgent necessity done long ago; it is now many months since he promised to see it .done, and it yet remains in statu qu >. Ili conclusion, I hope Mr Tobin will in future show a livelier interest in the affairs of the riding ; or, if he cannot afford the time for it, resign and let a man go in who can.—l am, etc., Common Digger. Lowburn, March 18th, 1885.
