The Education Board last week granted £35 for additions to. Hawea School. The/Stow* says tha to wing to the inability of the Defence Department to supply the required tentage, there is a strong probability of the proposed encampment at Tahuua Park at Easter being abandoned. The Hon. W. J. M. Larnach, Minister of Mines and Customs, leaves Dunedin on his proposed tour of the Otago Goldfields in the course of three or four d;lys. It is understood that he is to be accompanied by Mr Vincent Pyke, M.H.R, . The assignee said, as far as he could see, after all charges were covered, and a liberal allowance was paid to the debtor, there would be nothing for distribution amongst the creditors. £ A six-roomed cottage in. Clyde, the property of Mr Robert Stewart, and occupied by Mr John Cox, was totally destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon last, together with the whole of the contents, excepting one box of clothing and a few books of accounts. Unfortunately there were but few adult males in the town at the time, the rest being away at the races, and the efforts of the few to save the property were futile. Mrs Cox had been washing all day, and at the time of the outbreak was hanging out some of the clothes, and therefore is unable to say how the fire originated. Though the house was insured for £IOO, and the contents for £l5O, both the landlord and tenant will be considerable losers, —Dmstan Times,
