On Friday his father was bringing the lad into town from Ardgour to see Dr Staepoole. On reaching the Bendigo Hotel the boy asked to be taken inside. Mr E. M'Dougall, member for the riding, expressed his opinion that a pound was not required ; but, whether or not, he thought the residents interested should have an opportunity of expressing their opinion on the subject. He therefore proposed—“ That, in the interest of justice to all concerned, it is desirable that the people of Wanaka and Cardrona districts have an opportunity of expressing their opinions to this Council on the subject of the establishment of a pound, and if desired, the site most suitable for the purpose.” Mr M‘Dongall said he would call meetings at Pembroke and Cardrona to test public feeling.
