MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
Q —“* An adjourned meeting of tho Council was hold in the Chamber on Tuesday evening last. Present : Tho Mayor, and Crs. Kelly, Burros, and l>agg. The assessment-roll for tho year ending 31st July, 1870, was laid before the Council for approval. It was resolved to allow tho assessment; and on the motion of Cr. Kelly, seconded by Cr. Burres, the Town Clerk was instructed to give public notice of its being so allowed, and that it is lying at his office for inspection. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Dagg, seconded by Cr. Kelly, that a memorial bo presented to the Superintendent, praying him to cause a sufficient sum of money to be placed on the estimates for the purpose of erecting a bridge across the river Clutha, about one mile above Cromwell, for pack-horses and foot-passengers only, in order to connect Quartz-reef Point with the town of Cromwell; and for the purpose, also, of forming a good road from Cromwell to Logantown, Bendigo Gully, via M'Lachlau’s punt; and that the Town Clerk write to Mr Fraser, M.P.0., requesting him to give the memorial his best support. On the motion of Cr. Dagg, seconded by Cr. Burres, the Town Clerk was instructed to write to Mr J. Harding, and Mr James Dawkins, requesting them to remove tho soil at the rear of their premises (the stables) in Melmore-street, which is becoming a nuisance to the neighbourhood, and beg of them not to allow it to occur again.
Moved by Cr. Kelly, seconded by Cr. Dagg, and carried, “That the Public Works Committee be empowered to ascertain what will be the most advisable plan to keep the town water-race in such a condition as will ensure to the township a constant supply of water. A vote of thanks to the Mayor concluded the proceedings.
