INGENIOUS GERMAN PRISONERS.
SHORT-LIVED FREEDOM. TO DEPOSE THE KAISER. NEW YORK, May 29. Under the title of "Friends of the German Republic" a Provisional Revolutionary Committee of American Germans lias opened an office. Its object is to put the Kaiser out of business. LONDON, May 29. Lieutenant Theleu, a German prisoner, escaped from Chelmsford Gaol. He had previously made sensational escapes from Donington Hall in 1915 and from Maidenhead Camp in 1916. Theleu was on Saturday night apparently locked safely in his cell. A warder saw him and a companion asleep throughout the night, but really two dummies occupied the beds. Dummy padlocks were made of cardboard and replaced the picked locks of the cell. Thelen also picked the locks of the corridor and the gate of the gaolyard. He and his companion climbed the wall, but a cyclist pursued them and found them hiding chin-deep in water.
