ON THE WESTERN FRONT.
SUCCESSFUL BRITISH RAIDS. LONDON, May 28. Field-Marshal Sir Douglas Haig reports : Wo successfully raided east of Vertelles. The enemy raided a small post north-east of Ypres. There Were many air fights on Sunday. Twenty-three enemy machines were brought down and three of ours are missing. BRITISH REPEL RAIDERS. AND CARRY OUT RAIDS. LONDON, May 29. Field-Marshal Sir Douglas Haig roports:— Wo drove off enemy raiders southward of Lens and westward of Messines. We carried out successful raids northward of Ploegsteert .Wood. The enemy artillery has been active at Bulleeourt and astride the Scarpe River. FRENCH OPERATIONS. LONDON, May 28. A French communique states: Three more enemy attacks at Casque and Teton (Champagne) were completely repulsed. The German artillery has been fairly lively at Morthomme, on the left bank of the Meuse. A French detachment penetrated the enemy's second line in the region of Uffholy, in Alsace. Our aerial squadron inflicted much military damage, especially to an establishment in Champagne and in the region of Thionvillc. We brought down 10 enemy machines. A GERMAN REPORT. LONDON, May 28. A German official message states: We repulsed the English westward of Wytschaete. There has been stubborn fighting between Cherisy and Bulleeourt, where British oft-repeated attacks failed. We captured French trenches at Hocheberg and Keilberg, southward o£ Moronvillers, and recaptured a post south-east of Naetroy. Last; Friday we brought down 12 aeroplanes and two balloons. FRENCH REPULSE ATTACKS. GOOD AVIATION RESULTS. LONDON, May 29. A French communique states: Following a violent bombardment in the region of Hurtebise two enemy attacks were compuletely repulsed. We carried a small enemy post north !)( Yacherauville. We effectively bombarded the enemy's eenmunications south of Nauroy and Mcronvillers. Sevi.n German aeroplanes were t roughx down and 12 were forced to .and in a seriously damaged condition. THE HINDENBURG LINE. IS IT A MYTH? NEW YORK, May 29. A 'Herald' dispatch from British Headquarters states that German wounded say the Ilindenburg Line is a fairy tale. They were blind fools who were led blindfolded. The Italians have taken 20,000 prisoners.
