THE CALL TO ARMS.
RATANUI SOLDIERS FAREWELLED. A farewel.l concert was tendered to Private William Williamson (now Corporal), of the 15th Reinforcements, on July 20. Although the weather was anything but favourable, a large number assembled in the school to bid him farewell and God-speed. A musical programme having been gone through, Mr E. Davis presented the departing soldier, on behalf of those present, with a "wristlet watch, suitably inscribed. Private Williamson in a few appropriate remarks thanked all present for their kindness to him. After supper had been partaken of the floor was cleared for dancing, which was kept up for a few hours. On July 14 Corporal James- Williamson, prior to his departure for Featherston, was entertained by the school children. At the close of the concert Mr G. Overton presented Corporal Wil-' liamson, on behalf of the school children, with a wristlet watch, suitably inscribed. After supper the floor was cleared and a short dance indulged in. corporal Williamson will leave with the Hit'h Reinforcements. A very enjoyable social evening was held on l'uesday (July IS) in honour of Private Hugh White, of the 16th Reinforcements. After an enjoyable programme of songs, re-citations, etc., Mr G. Overtoil called on Private White to come forward and be made the recipient of a wristlet watch. Private White thanked all present for their valuable token of remembrance. After supper an enjoyable dance was indulged iu.
