TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.
MR W. STEWART'S JEWELLERY PREMISES. Among the luauy improvements which have recently been made to business establishments at Balclutha, the latest is that effected in Mr .W. Stewart's jewellery premises (next door to the Leader office). Complete new window fittings manufactured by the well-known firm of Haywards, Limited (shop front specialists, Dunedin), have been -installed, and- nothing more up-to-date aii-:I effective is now to be seen in any town south, of Dunedin. Five large mirrors and three mirrored itoot's form the background of the window, and the interior tit-tings- 'are divided into two compartments, each containing four heavy plate glass shelves, with bevelled and polished edges, which entirely eliminate any danger of accident to the hands through contact. The window is so constructed that it is entirely dustproof. The latest method of lighting has been adopted, two inverted burners being placed outside the window in such a position as to give the best lighting effects. The new window lias been- artistically and tastefully dress-ed, and the manner in which the mirrors are arranged makes the effect most striking. Mr Stewart is to be complimented on his enterprise in effecting such a radical change, and one which not only great.lv improves- the appearance of his premises, but is an ornament to the town. Mr A. Johnston (of Dunedin) had charge of the work of erecting the new fittings.
