LONDON, May 4. Two thousand insurgents were camped neat Galway on the second day of the rising. Four men and a sergeant held the police barracks at Oranmore (not far from Galway town) against a small band of attackers until reinforcements arrived and drove off the rebels. NORTH OF IRELAND. COLON ML'S QUfCK I)EC 18 FOX. LONDON, May 3. The Daily 'Chronicle says that the quick decision of an Irish colonel largely contributed to the tranquility of the North of Ireland. At the first hint of trouble lie collected a mobile Hying column, consisting of .'{oo military constabulary troopers, aud swept over the six counties, round Lough Neagh, aud far into Galway. The grim determination of the column sufficed to stamp out the opposition. It swooped upon the biggest Sinn Fein strongholds in Tyrone. At Antrim 2(10 volunteers assembled and met the column as it approached. The column then hastened to Cookstown and Dungannou (both in Tyrone), establishing guards at the most important points. The main body occupied Carrickmore, the Winn 'Feiners' stronghold, where it seized .'(0,000 rounds of ammunition.
